Mur-Murs: At Chloé's in the 9th arrondissement of Paris

A small apartment, a huge crush. That pretty much sums up Chloé’s real estate adventure; she is now the owner of a 16 m² studio tucked away in the Saint-Georges neighborhood, just a stone's throw from the square of the same name. True to her infectious zest for life, she opens the doors to her light-drenched sanctuary, perched right at the roofline and open to the Parisian sky.

An intuition, then an address

Chloé reached an age where renting felt tiresome, and the prospect of owning an apartment that was finally her own became increasingly compelling. It was no coincidence: as an executive at an architecture firm, she knew exactly what she wanted and wasn't about to compromise on location or design choices. Everything had to be a perfect reflection of her: sunny, organized, and clever.

Beyond the neighborhood she particularly loves, Chloé focused on two criteria: natural light and the building's management. If she was going to create the ideal apartment, the neighbors and common areas had to be just as perfect. Chloé met her future home on a winter morning, while Paris lay under a thick blanket of clouds and the temperature didn't exceed ten degrees. Theformer maid's room of 16 m² (23 m² of floor space) she was shown didn't look like much—but it didn't matter; it had to be here and nowhere else.

"My attention was immediately drawn to the large roof openings, which promised a magnificent source of natural light all day long and an unobstructed view of the Parisian rooftops. Even though the weather was dreadful that day."

Once the purchase was complete, it was finally time to create and compose the bold, pop-inspired retreat Chloé had imagined, working hand-in-hand with Studio Maison Kyka. Ready, set, create! 

Living in the light

Describe Chloé and her apartment in one word? Easy: sunshine. For its brightness, of course, but also for the vibrant hues that radiate from every corner, giving the whole space a delightfully retro atmosphere. It is a perfect symbiosis for the owner, who dresses in a thousand and one shades every day and delights in every ray of light.

They say the eyes are the mirror of the soul, but they also reflect the lines of the place we call home. In this respect, Chloé’s apartment is no exception.

"The decor elements that best reflect who I am? My cynical side would say the cowhide rug in the living room. But on a warmer note, I’d say the curves—both in the tile cuts and the lines of the bookcase."

Designed with optimization in mind, the renovation completely reimagines the space. The apartment adopts a new layout, structured around a more intuitive flow where spaces are defined as much by their circulation as by their aesthetic. You’d almost forget it’s a studio.

The entryway is punctuated by non-woven wallpaper with architectural patterns. Like a recurring theme, this print leads into the living area, where it plays off the green of the sofa. The dining area, with its custom-built bench, then reveals itself in a subtle trompe-l’œil: the surrounding mirror stretches the room without you even noticing.

A few steps are all it takes to enter the open kitchen, yellow from floor to ceiling, designed as a bold box effect. The bathroom, meanwhile, continues this total-look approach with a two-tone red and ecru palette that has a distinct seventies vibe.

A taste for the 9^th

More than just an apartment, Chloé’s new sanctuary embodies her vision of the ideal place to live. And it all starts right outside her front door. 

“It’s the perfect combination of a lively neighborhood, a soft, bohemian atmosphere, and the festive madness of Pigalle, which is just a few minutes away on foot.”
