According to Architectural Digest and the highly regarded business strategy consultancy NellyRodi, four major interior design trends are emerging for 2024.“In the aftermath of lockdowns, the cocooning trend has evolved into a more protective aesthetic, where consumers seek a heightened sense of security at home,” explains the agency. This desire is expressed through organic minimalism. On the flip side, other trends reflect a more expressive and dreamlike approach—aspirational maximalism, instinctive expressionism, and ultra-functional futurism.Maison Kyka breaks down these four key trends and shares its insights to help you shape your interior in 2024.

What style should you choose in 2024?

A staple for several seasons now, the 70s remain a major influence in 2024. This year marks the height of maximalism, blending elements from the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Think bold colors, layered aesthetics, and the comeback of brutalist-style furniture. This trend also nods to the golden age of the French Riviera—glamorous, sun-drenched, and unapologetically eclectic.

The color of 2024? Earthy tones—ranging from ochre to aubergine, with terracotta leading the way as a must-have. Pair these hues with mustard yellow for a 70s vibe, sage or khaki green for a more bohemian feel, or artsy blues like the iconic Klein Blue, Majorelle Blue, or Sarah Lavoine’s signature shade. For a feminine and indulgent twist, don't shy away from soft and vibrant pinks.

Metal, chrome, and bronze are making a strong comeback. Brass and black accents are still very much in vogue, but copper is stepping back—best reserved for a countryside home. Chrome has been gradually gaining ground in the world of interior design, and 2024 is the year it fully claims its place in our homes. This resurgence aligns with the return of the “Space Age” aesthetic—that retro-futuristic vision of the 1960s inspired by space exploration and imagined futures. These bold materials are once again taking center stage.

In 2024, our interiors will still embrace curves and organic shapes, bringing a sense of softness and absolute comfort into our daily lives.

Still at the top of the trends: wallpaper—playful, decorative, and full of pattern and color. Borders are making a bold comeback, and it’s time to embrace them in your interiors. On the flip side, panoramic wallpapers, now overused and widely replicated, are losing momentum.

Carpeting is also experiencing a renaissance, echoing the return of 70s–90s aesthetics and the desire for softness and curved lines. For a bold, ultra-chic look, dare to go with white carpet.
